Canine Rehab

What is Happy Paws Canine Rehab?

Happy Paws Canine Rehab is a mobile pet physical therapy practice that serves Routt County and surrounding areas. Having a mobile practice allows me to come to your home where your pet is most comfortable. Happy Paws is committed to providing high-quality, individualized care to help improve your pet’s quality of life.

Happy Paws Canine Rehab provides mobile service throughout Routt County including Steamboat Springs, Oak Creek, Stagecoach, Yampa, Phippsburg, Hayden, and Clark. I also occasionally provide services in Summit and Eagle Counties as well.

The Happy Paws logo contains two things I hold dear to my heart; my dog, Elsa, and the mountains. Exploring the mountains with Elsa is one of my favorite things in the world. My goal is to help keep your dog adventuring with you!

What is Canine Rehab?

Canine rehab follows the same principles and techniques as human physical therapy (PT) with the goal of minimizing pain and maximizing function. Dogs of any age or breed can benefit from rehab. Canine rehab may be used to regain range of motion, strength, and function after surgery. It can also be appropriate for problems associated with aging, like arthritis, stiffness, and weakness.

Similar to human physical therapy, canine rehab uses manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and modalities to help reduce pain, improve strength, and restore function. Depending on the condition, rehab will often start with pain control using manual therapy and modalities. We then work on restoring range of motion, strength, balance, and endurance with progressive loading of muscles and joints.

As a doctor of physical therapy, I have been extensively trained in identifying and treating movement dysfunction. Determining the root cause of movement dysfunction and recognizing secondary impairments/compensatory patterns is crucial for successful treatment of your pet.

You are a key part of your pet's success!

Every client will be given a home exercise program to perform with their pet at least a few times a week, but often daily. Your participation in the rehab process helps speed up recovery and improve outcomes!
